Flo was born in London in a family of eight siblings to Dame Helena Morrissey, a former Investment Management CEO and Richard Morrissey a former financial journalist. She was a talented girl and started writing her own songs at the age of 14. She left her studies at the age of 17 and decided to pursue her career in music. She joined the Brit School for Performing Arts and Technology where she learned music for the next 2 years.
However, she left Brit School as she had decided to choose music as her career. She had her first song video released “If You Can’t Love This All Goes Away” after which she was signed by Glassnote Records. In 2014 the rehearsals for her first album started in Los Angeles, CA. She released her single “Pages of Gold” the same year. In June, 2015 her album “Tomorrow will be Beautiful” was released. This album was produced by Noah Georgeson and Philippe Zdar. In the same year she was featured in many festivals which also included Glastonbury.
In the year 2015 she moved to Paris and had started touring Japan & America that is when her single “Show Me” was released. On the 13th of January 2017 Flo Morrissey released her album Gentlewomen, Ruby Man. The Guardian’s Alexis Petridis gave four out of five stars to this album. Calm Down is her latest single which was released on 14 February 2020. This single was a combined work of both Flo Morrissey and Benjamin Clementine.
Tomorrow Will Be Beautiful: This album had two songs “Show me” and if you can’t love “This All Goes Away”. These songs have an ancient feel to it and have softly thumbed acoustic guitars with harp motifs and accents which are very cosmic along with a period wardrobe. It takes you a decade back in time. As she is from an influential and privileged family of British musicians, she has been very earnest with her music. It is very likely that she has embraced the tastes of her elders.
Pages of Gold: Has a usage of warped electric guitar and has a lot of chorus. However, you cannot deny that she has a beautiful voice which is agile and pure.
If You Can’t Love This All Goes Away: Is one of the best Flo Morrissey’s vocal performances where she has really put in a lot of hard work. She was quoted saying that she wanted to create the music because she wanted to advise herself. She says that the song is an advice that everyone has to work a bit more and always find the beauty in every situation of life they face, be it happiness or sadness.
Gentlewoman, Ruby Man: When Matthew E White had his music reviewed next to Flo’s Pages of Gold, that is when they first came to know each other. They had after that made an appearance at a Barbican tribute concert, and the duet they sang earned many accolades. This album has a power in the choice of songs. You can make an amazing mixtape out of the original. The 10- track edition was released on January 13 and the songs are pretty amazing to listen to.
Betrayed, show me & Welcome to Day trotter: her song is very classic in her own way. It shows that music is imbibed in her and the music she created is awe- inspiring. It has a hypnotic effect and it is very powerful. It gives you an insight to understand your true self.
